Paper for printers

A printer buys paper for the face the ink lands on. MG gives a glazed face on one side. MF gives an even face on both. The shade decides how colour lands.

01 / The jobs

Where our paper works in a print shop

Printing wrap, bags and labels for brands. Printing on reels for converting. Sheet-fed jobs on 500×700 and 700×1,000 mm stock.

02 / Constraints

The limits a printer works under

  1. Colour accuracy

Ink on brown shifts towards the base shade. Brand colours need a white face.

  2. Feeding side

MG has one printing face, so the sheet feeds one way up. MF prints either side, with no orienting.

  3. Sheet size

Sheet-fed presses take set sizes. Our MG and MF sheets come in 500×700 and 700×1,000 mm.

  4. Thickness on the press

Presses feed by thickness. We do not publish caliper values yet, so measure samples on your own press.

04 / Example

A worked example

A print shop runs branded wrap for a garment brand on white MG, from 700×1,000 mm sheets. The same shop prints one-colour bags on brown MG, and general jobs on white MF, where an even sheet matters more than a glazed face.

05 / Packaging print

Printing for packaging

Printed packaging has to survive handling after the press. Brown and white MG pair the glazed face with a sheet built for packing.

For heavy outer packs, bleached kraft gives a white surface with kraft strength. Bleached kraft is a strength grade, not a printing surface, so proof your artwork on a sample first.

06 / Ordering

Order sizes and lead times

White MF sells from 100 reams per sheet size, the lowest entry point for sheet work. MG and MF reels start at 1 tonne per GSM and width.

Reels run 500 to 1,500 mm wide and 1,500 to 4,000 m long. Lead time is 3 to 5 weeks after spec approval.

Questions

Before you specify

Which paper gives the best colour?

White MG. The glazed white face is the better of our two MG grades for colour fidelity.

Does MF paper print on both sides?

Yes. MF is even on both faces, with no printing side. A glazed MG face holds finer detail on one side.

Do you supply printing paper in reams?

White MF, from 100 reams per sheet size, in 500×700 and 700×1,000 mm.
