Label stock paper

Label stock is the face paper a label is printed on. White MG gives you a glazed printing face. Self-adhesive and wet-strength labels need a specialist grade.

01 / The term

What label stock means

Self-adhesive label stock has three layers: the face paper you print on, an adhesive, and a release liner the label peels off. Wet-glue labels are face paper alone, glued to the container on the labelling line.

The face paper decides how the print looks. The adhesive and the liner decide how the label sticks.

03 / Fit

Where MG fits, and where MG stops

MG suits printed labels, tags and wraps, where one glazed face carries the print and the reverse goes against the product or the glue.

We supply the MG paper only. We do not supply adhesive-coated label stock or release liner. A label converter adds these.

Labels on returnable bottles go through washing, and label mills make wet-strength papers for this job. We have not verified wet strength for our MG. Ask before you specify MG for washed bottles.

04 / Weight

Picking a weight

Our MG runs from 40 to 80 GSM. Specialist wet-glue label papers from label mills start at about 65 to 70 GSM, so the top of our range overlaps the bottom of theirs.

Run a trial on your own labeller before you place a full order.

05 / Ordering

Formats and order size

MG comes in reels from 500 to 1,500 mm wide and 1,500 to 4,000 m long, and in 500×700 and 700×1,000 mm sheets.

The MOQ is 1 tonne per GSM and width, with 3 to 5 weeks after spec approval. For labels on food packs, ask us before food use.

Questions

Before you specify

Is MG paper used for labels?

Yes. The glazed face takes print, which suits labels and tags. For self-adhesive labels, a converter adds the adhesive and the liner.

Do you supply self-adhesive label stock?

No. We supply the face paper only, in white and brown MG.

White or brown MG for labels?

White MG for accurate colour. Ink on brown shifts towards the base shade.
