Paper for handicraft exporters

A handicraft exporter wraps each piece, fills the carton and covers the edges for a long journey. Each job points to a different paper grade.

01 / The jobs

Where paper works in an export unit

Wrapping finished pieces in brass, wood, ceramic and textile, one by one. Filling the space in export cartons. Lining cartons. Covering the edges of furniture and framed pieces.

02 / Constraints

The limits an exporter works under

  1. Long journeys

Export cartons move by road, port and sea, with many handlings on the way. Packing has to hold for weeks.

  2. Mixed shapes

Pieces vary in shape and size within one order, so wrap comes from sheets and reels cut to each piece.

  3. Finished surfaces

Polished brass, painted wood and glazed ceramic show scuffs, so a clean, even sheet goes against the finish.

  4. Buyer presentation

An overseas buyer opens the carton. A clean outer wrap matters where the buyer sees the pack.

04 / Example

A worked example

An exporter packs brass vases and wooden figurines for a buyer abroad. Each piece goes into a 500×700 mm sheet of white MF. Crumpled kraft from 900×1,200 mm sheets fills the space around the pieces, and a kraft liner covers the carton walls.

Furniture and framed pieces get kraft folded over every edge and corner before strapping.

05 / Ordering

Order sizes and lead times

White MF sells from 100 reams per sheet size, the lowest entry point in this set. White MF reels start at 1 tonne per GSM and width, with 3 to 5 weeks after spec approval.

Kraft and bleached kraft start at 1 tonne per GSM and width, with 3 to 6 weeks after spec approval. Plan export seasons against these lead times.

06 / Formats

Sheets and reels

White MF comes in 500×700 and 700×1,000 mm sheets, and in reels from 500 to 1,500 mm wide. Kraft comes in 700×1,000 and 900×1,200 mm sheets, and in reels from 600 to 1,800 mm wide.

Sheets suit a packing table wrapping piece by piece. Reels suit a unit packing large volumes of one product.
