Paper for packaging converters
A packaging business turns reels into bags, wraps, liners and fill. Kraft carries strength. MG carries print. Bleached kraft carries a clean look on a strength grade.

01 / The jobs
Where paper works in a packaging unit
Converting reels into paper bags and sacks. Printing wrap for brands. Lining and filling cartons. Wrapping goods for dispatch.
02 / Constraints
The limits a packaging unit works under
Machine widths
A converting line runs to set reel widths. Every width you order is a separate MOQ line.
Print on one face
Printed packs need a glazed printing face, so MG is the default for branded wrap and bags.
Strength in transit
Bags, sacks and outer wraps take handling, so the base sheet needs kraft strength.
Food contact
Kraft is not for direct food contact. For MG and bleached kraft, ask us before food use.
Lead time
Kraft takes 3 to 6 weeks after spec approval, MG 3 to 5 weeks. Plan reorders against these.

04 / Example
A worked example
A converter makes printed retail bags on white MG from a 1,000 mm reel, and plain carry bags on brown kraft from a 1,200 mm reel. The unit lines its own dispatch cartons from the same kraft reel.
This order holds two lines, each with its own 1 tonne minimum. A third width adds a third line, so fewer widths keep each line above the minimum.

05 / Formats
Reels, sheets and order sizes
MG reels run 500 to 1,500 mm wide and 1,500 to 4,000 m long. Kraft and bleached kraft reels run 600 to 1,800 mm wide and 1,000 to 3,000 m long.
All four grades start at 1 tonne per GSM and width.
06 / Buying
A buying checklist for converters
- Fix the grade, GSM and reel width for each product you make.
- Check the reel length and reel weight your unwind stand takes.
- Ask for samples and run them on your line before the first order.
- Record the agreed spec, and check each delivery against the spec.
Questions
Before you specify
Which paper do converters use for printed bags?
MG. The glazed face carries print. White MG gives accurate colour, and brown MG gives a natural look.
What is the MOQ for packaging reels?
1 tonne per GSM and width, for kraft, bleached kraft and both MG grades.
Which paper goes against food in a pack?
Butter paper or OGR. Keep kraft out of direct food contact, and ask us before food use of MG or bleached kraft.
