How much butter paper a bakery uses

Count your trays, measure one liner, and multiply. The worked example below runs the numbers on our roll and sheet sizes.

01 / Inputs

Three numbers you need

The length of paper one tray takes. Measure the tray and add a small overlap at each end.

The number of trays you line in a day, across every shift.

Your paper format: a roll width close to your tray width, or a sheet size close to your tray size.

02 / Example

A worked example on a roll

Take a bakery lining 100 trays a day. Each liner takes 420 mm of paper from a 450 mm wide roll at 40 GSM.

Daily use: 100 trays × 0.42 m = 42 m of paper a day.

A 100 m retail roll lasts about two and a half days at this rate. A 2,000 m bulk reel lasts about 48 days.

Weight per reel: 2,000 m × 0.45 m × 40 GSM = 36,000 grams, or 36 kg. Our bulk MOQ is 250 kg per width and GSM, so a first bulk order covers about 7 reels, or close to a year of trays at this rate.

03 / Sheets

The same bakery on pre-cut sheets

Switch to pre-cut 450×600 mm sheets at 40 GSM. One sheet lines one tray, so 100 trays use 100 sheets a day.

Sheets per kilogram: 1,000,000,000 ÷ (40 × 450 × 600) gives 92 sheets per kg.

Our sheet MOQ is 10,000 sheets per size and GSM, about 100 days of trays at this rate.

04 / Choosing

Roll or sheet for your volume

Rolls win on mixed tray sizes, since you cut each length to the tray. Sheets win when you repeat one size all day, because they remove the cutting step.

Our rolls come in widths of 300, 380, 450, 600, 900 and 1,200 mm. Our sheets come in 300×400, 380×500, 450×600 and 500×700 mm.

05 / Your numbers

Run your own numbers

Replace the example figures with your own tray count, liner length and weight. Our roll length calculator turns any reel weight into metres, so you check a quote against your daily use.

Add a margin for spoiled sheets and busy days, then reorder before stock falls below your lead time. Bulk butter paper reels in stock ship in 2 to 5 working days, and custom reels take 3 to 5 weeks.

06 / Weight

Weight changes the kilograms, not the metres

A heavier GSM puts more kilograms on the same length. At 50 GSM, the same 2,000 m reel at 450 mm weighs 45 kg instead of 36 kg.

We price reels by weight, so the heavier reel costs more for the same number of trays. Pick the lightest weight passing your tray test.

07 / Type

Pick the type for the oven

For trays going into the oven, order the silicone-coated type, rated to 230 °C. We make no oven claim for vegetable parchment or greaseproof uncoated, so keep those types for wrapping and interleaving.

Questions

Before you specify

How long does a 100 m butter paper roll last?

Divide 100 m by your daily use. At 42 m a day, a 100 m roll lasts about two and a half days.

How much does a bulk butter paper reel weigh?

Multiply length, width and GSM. A 2,000 m reel, 450 mm wide, at 40 GSM weighs 36 kg.

How many trays does a 2,000 m reel line?

Divide 2,000 m by your liner length. At 420 mm per tray, a 2,000 m reel lines about 4,700 trays.

Are rolls or sheets cheaper for a bakery?

Compare on your own volume. Run your daily use through both formats and ask us to quote each.
