Butter paper (India)

Wins: One trade name for three food papers, so one supplier covers baking, wrapping and interleaving.

Loses: The name alone does not tell you the type. Ask which type before oven use.

Parchment paper

Wins: A clear name in a recipe: the coated, oven-ready sheet.

Loses: The name means different papers in different countries. Check the coating and rating on the pack.

02 / Decide

How to decide

For a recipe asking for parchment or baking paper, buy silicone-coated butter paper. Our silicone-coated type is rated to 230 °C.

For wrapping rotis, lining sweet boxes or interleaving layers, any of the three butter paper types works. None of those jobs needs an oven rating.

03 / Greaseproof

Greaseproof paper vs baking paper

Greaseproof paper is a dense, closely formed sheet, treated at the size press to resist fat, with no silicone coating. Baking paper carries a silicone coat for release and heat.

Our greaseproof uncoated butter paper has no published oven rating. Use greaseproof for wrapping and lining cold or warm food, and silicone-coated paper for the oven.

04 / Butcher paper

Butter paper vs butcher paper

Butcher paper is a kraft paper, made from kraft pulp, for wrapping meat and fish. Butcher paper is heavier, from about 49 to 81 GSM.

Butter paper is lighter, 35 to 50 GSM, and translucent. For wrapping meat at a counter, OGR gives a grease barrier. Our plain kraft is not for direct food contact.
