Migration test

Migration test checks whether substances move from food packaging into food or a test medium under stated conditions.

What the report tells you

Food touches a wrapper for a period of time. A lab checks whether substances transfer from the wrapper under stated test conditions. The report names the material, food or simulant, contact time, temperature, method and result.

A result belongs to the tested construction and conditions. A result for a cold dry snack does not establish suitability for hot oily food. Ask for evidence matching your own food and use.

Different paper grades call for evidence tied to the exact material and job.

What the Indian rules say

FSSAI defines overall and specific migration in the Packaging Regulations. Section 4 states numeric overall and specific migration limits for plastic materials. Do not apply those plastic numbers to every paper sheet.

For direct food contact, the rules require a certificate of conformity from a NABL accredited laboratory. Ask which material and standard the certificate covers. Ask whether the paper, coating, ink and final construction match the stock you plan to use.

For a KEIKO paper order

We do not publish a batch migration report or certificate for our range today. Ask us for the documentation available for your chosen grade before placing a direct-contact order. Send the intended food, contact time and temperature with the request.
