KIT value

KIT value is a number from 1 to 12 rating how well a paper resists grease in the TAPPI T 559 kit test.

01 / The test

How the kit test works

The test uses 12 solutions, numbered 1 to 12. Each solution mixes castor oil, toluene and n-heptane. Number 1 is the mildest, and number 12 the most aggressive.

A tester drops a solution on the paper and wipes the drop off after 15 seconds. The KIT value is the highest number leaving no stain. The top rating is 12.

02 / Buying

Reading a KIT claim as a buyer

A higher number means stronger grease resistance in this test. Compare KIT values only when both suppliers used the same method.

Ask which method produced the figure, and ask for a test report on your exact grade and GSM.

Test the paper with your own food too. The lab drop sits on the paper for 15 seconds. Your wrap holds food for far longer.

03 / Our OGR

KIT value and KEIKO PAPERS OGR

We do not publish KIT values for our OGR yet. Until we do, order samples and test them with your own food.

Our white and brown OGR share one oil and grease resistant grade, in 35, 45, 55, 65 and 70 GSM.
