Void fill paper

Void fill is paper packed into the empty space of a carton, so goods stay put in transit. Kraft does the job for most shippers.

01 / The job

What void fill does

A carton rarely fits its contents exactly. The empty space lets goods shift, knock against each other and hit the carton walls.

Void fill packs this space. Crumpled paper cushions the goods inside the carton and holds them in place for the journey.

    Kraft

    60–120 GSM

    Kraft is the strength grade: long-fibre and unbleached, built for cushioning inside a carton.

    Bleached Kraft

    Bleached kraft keeps the long-fibre base and adds a clean white surface, for cartons your customer opens. Plain kraft keeps the full strength.

03 / Weight

Picking a weight

Weight follows the load and the handling, not a rule of thumb. Heavier goods and rougher journeys point to the upper end of the 60 to 120 GSM range.

Tell us what you ship and how the cartons travel, and we will suggest a weight.

04 / Ordering

Formats and order size

Kraft comes in reels from 600 to 1,800 mm wide and 1,000 to 3,000 m long, and in 700×1,000 and 900×1,200 mm sheets.

The MOQ is 1 tonne per GSM and width, with a lead time of 3 to 6 weeks after spec approval. Kraft is not for direct food contact.

05 / Method

Crumpled or flat

Crumple kraft sheets loosely and pack them around the goods until nothing moves when you shake the closed carton. Flat sheets work as a liner under and over the goods.

Test the fill on a real shipment before you set a standard for every carton.

Before you specify

Is kraft paper good for void fill?

Yes. Kraft is long-fibre and unbleached, and our grade pages list void fill and protection among its main uses.

Brown or white kraft for void fill?

Brown kraft for cartons out of sight. Bleached kraft when the customer opens the carton and sees the fill.

Do you supply kraft in sheets for void fill?

Yes. Kraft comes in 700×1,000 and 900×1,200 mm sheets, as well as reels.
