Paper for ghee and butter packaging

Butter and ghee are fat, and fat soaks through plain paper. Wrap butter blocks in vegetable parchment or OGR. Line cartons of ghee-rich sweets and snacks with OGR.

01 / The job

What the paper has to do

A butter block needs a wrap holding the fat in and keeping the outside clean on the shelf. A box of ghee-rich pinni or ladoo needs a liner keeping the ghee off the carton.

Liquid ghee itself goes in jars, tins and pouches. Paper does the wrapping and lining around ghee-rich food, not the containing of liquid ghee.

03 / Butter blocks

Wrapping butter blocks

Butter makers wrap blocks in vegetable parchment or in foil laminated to paper. The laminate adds a barrier to light and air.

We supply the paper, not foil laminates. Order vegetable parchment butter paper in sheets cut to your wrap size, or OGR in sheets of 300×400, 400×600 or 500×700 mm.

04 / Ghee sweets

Lining boxes of ghee sweets

Cut OGR to the base of the box and lay the sweets on the sheet. The barrier keeps ghee off the carton board.

For a dry sweet such as barfi, a sheet of butter paper does the job. For ghee-heavy pinni, ladoo and halwa, use OGR.

05 / Testing

Test with your own product

Fat content, temperature and shelf time differ between products. We do not publish KIT values for our OGR yet.

Order samples, wrap your own butter or sweets, and leave them for your normal shelf time before you fix a grade and weight.

06 / Ordering

Order sizes and lead times

OGR starts at 500 kg per GSM and size, with 2 to 3 weeks from stock or 6 to 8 weeks for a new mill run. Butter paper sheets start at 10,000 per size and GSM, with 2 to 4 weeks after size approval.

Questions

Before you specify

Which paper is used to wrap butter?

Vegetable parchment, or foil laminated to paper. We supply vegetable parchment butter paper and OGR, not foil laminates.

Is OGR paper good for ghee sweets?

Yes. OGR holds a grease barrier where a plain sheet darkens through. Test with your own sweets before you fix a weight.

Does paper hold liquid ghee?

No. Liquid ghee goes in jars, tins or pouches. Paper wraps and lines ghee-rich food.
