Picking a weight for packaging

Weight follows the load and the handling, not a rule of thumb.

Light goods on a short, careful journey sit towards 60 GSM. Heavy goods, sharp edges and rough handling point towards 120 GSM. The 80 and 100 GSM weights sit between the two.

Test two weights on a real shipment before you set a standard for every carton.

05 / Reels

Reel width and reel length

Kraft reels run from 600 to 1,800 mm wide and 1,000 to 3,000 m long. Match the reel width to your wrapping table, dispenser or converting line.

Weight and length trade against each other. One tonne of 1,000 mm kraft holds about 16,700 m at 60 GSM and about 8,300 m at 120 GSM, spread across several reels.

Our kraft starts at 60 GSM. We do not list a 40 GSM kraft.

For a lighter wrapping sheet, look at brown MG, from 40 GSM. Brown MG pairs a glazed face with a kraft base.

What GSM kraft paper is used for packaging?

Our packaging kraft runs from 60 to 120 GSM. Pick the light end for light goods on careful routes, and the heavy end for heavy goods and rough handling.

Is 100 GSM kraft paper available?

Yes. 100 GSM sits inside our 60 to 120 GSM range, for both kraft and bleached kraft.

Do you sell kraft paper by the reel?

Yes. Reels run 600 to 1,800 mm wide and 1,000 to 3,000 m long. The MOQ is 1 tonne per GSM and width.
