Paper sheet size chart

Three size systems meet on an Indian order: the ISO A series, the old British sheet names, and the sheet sizes a supplier cuts for each grade. This chart puts all three in millimetres.

01 / ISO A series

ISO A sizes in millimetres

ISO 216 A series. A0 covers one square metre, and each size halves the one before.
A0841×1,189 mm
A1594×841 mm
A2420×594 mm
A3297×420 mm
A4210×297 mm
A5148×210 mm

02 / How A sizes work

Why A sizes halve so neatly

Every A size keeps the same shape, a ratio of 1 to the square root of 2. Cut an A4 sheet in half across the long side and you get two A5 sheets of the same shape.

A0 covers one square metre. This makes GSM easy to read on A sizes: an A0 sheet at 80 GSM weighs 80 grams, and an A4 sheet, one sixteenth of A0, weighs 5 grams.

03 / Trade names

Traditional sheet names in millimetres

British sheet sizes, converted to millimetres.
Crown381×508 mm (15×20 in)
Demy445×572 mm
Royal508×635 mm (20×25 in)
Double demy572×902 mm

04 / In India

Standards and names on an Indian order

The Bureau of Indian Standards covers paper sizes in IS 1064. The older names, such as crown and demy, come from British sheet sizes.

Names drift between mills and traders. Always state the size in millimetres on your order, width first, then length.

05 / Our sizes

KEIKO PAPERS sheet sizes by grade

Standard sheet sizes from the KEIKO PAPERS specification sheet.
Butter paper sheets300×400, 380×500, 450×600, 500×700 mm
White and brown OGR300×400, 400×600, 500×700 mm
White and brown MG, white MF500×700, 700×1,000 mm
Kraft and bleached kraft700×1,000, 900×1,200 mm

06 / Side by side

Our sizes against A sizes

A 300×400 mm sheet sits close to A3, 297×420 mm, but 3 mm wider and 20 mm shorter. Artwork set for A3 does not fit without a change.

A 500×700 mm sheet sits between A2 and A1. A 700×1,000 mm sheet sits between A1 and A0. A 900×1,200 mm sheet is wider than A0 and a little longer.

07 / Cutting

Getting smaller sizes from a large sheet

A 700×1,000 mm sheet cuts into four 350×500 mm pieces with no waste. A 900×1,200 mm kraft sheet cuts into four 450×600 mm pieces.

Plan your finished size against the parent sheet before you order. A size dividing the parent sheet evenly leaves no trim.

08 / Weight

Sheet size and weight

One 500×700 mm sheet covers 0.35 square metres. At 60 GSM, one sheet weighs 21 grams, so 1,000 sheets weigh 21 kg.

Use our GSM calculator to turn any size and weight into sheets per kilogram.

09 / Specifying

How to write a size on your order

Write the grade, the GSM, the size in millimetres and the quantity in sheets or kilograms. For example: white MF, 60 GSM, 500×700 mm, 100 reams.

For butter paper sheets, we quote custom sizes on bulk orders. For other grades, ask the sales desk before you design around a size outside the chart.
