Which GSM for food wrapping
Food wraps sit at the light end of the paper range. Match the grade to the food first, then pick the weight.

01 / Grade first
Grade first, weight second
The food decides the grade. Oily food needs a grease barrier. Baked goods need clean release. Weight comes after.
Two of our grades suit direct food wrapping: butter paper, from 35 to 50 GSM, and OGR, in 35, 45, 55, 65 and 70 GSM.
02 / By food
Grade and weight by food
White or brown OGR. Start light for wraps and move up for heavier items.
OGR, so oil from fillings stays on the inside of the wrap.
Butter paper, 35 to 50 GSM, for clean release and a neat counter wrap.
Butter paper for rotis. OGR for parathas and other oily flatbreads.
Butter paper for dry fillings. OGR for oily or saucy fillings.
Silicone-coated butter paper, rated to 230 °C.

03 / Weight
Picking the weight
Across our ranges, lighter GSM suits wrapping and high volume, and heavier GSM suits handling and heavier product.
For a light wrap around a single item, start at the low end of the grade. For a heavy, wet or bulky item, or a wrap handled many times, move up a step.
Buyers of OGR usually run high volume, where every gram costs money. The grease barrier does the work extra weight would otherwise do.
04 / Limits
Grades to keep away from food
White MF is not for direct food contact. Kraft is not for direct food contact. For MG and bleached kraft, ask us before food use.
For anything touching food, use butter paper or OGR, and tell us what the paper will touch. We tell you which grades are cleared for the job.

05 / Testing
Test on your own food
Order swatches in two weights and wrap your own food. Leave the wrap for as long as your food usually sits before eating, then check the outside for grease and the inside for sogginess.
Pick the lightest weight passing the test, and record the choice on a specification sheet.
06 / Format
Rolls or sheets for food wrapping
Counters wrapping by hand usually prefer pre-cut sheets. Butter paper sheets come in 300×400, 380×500, 450×600 and 500×700 mm. OGR sheets come in 300×400, 400×600 and 500×700 mm.
Kitchens cutting to length prefer rolls. Butter paper rolls come in six widths from 300 to 1,200 mm. OGR reels run 300 to 1,200 mm wide, slit to order.
07 / Shade
White or brown
White and brown OGR share one grease barrier. White reads clean and retail. Brown reads natural and unbleached.
Butter paper is a translucent white sheet. For a natural look on oily food, choose brown OGR.
Questions
Before you specify
What GSM is best for wrapping fried food?
Use OGR. Start at the light end of our five weights for single wraps, and move up for heavy or wet items.
Is kraft paper safe for food wrapping?
Our kraft is not for direct food contact. Use butter paper or OGR against food.
What is the lightest food wrapping paper you sell?
Butter paper and OGR both start at 35 GSM.
Which paper goes in the oven?
Silicone-coated butter paper, rated to 230 °C. We make no oven claim for OGR or for the other two butter paper types.
Does heavier paper hold more grease?
Grease resistance comes from the OGR grade. Pick the grade for the barrier and the weight for the handling.
